Columbia Square Building is built.

Architect: John Fox. Also known as the Upham Building, it is designed in the Classical Revival style and located at 578 – 588 Columbia Road. It built by James Upham on the site of the store opened by his grandfather, Amos Upham, in approximately 1830. The brick and granite building includes an upstairs Masonic Hall and the first electric lights and the first telephone in Dorchester. The building is used for both residential and commercial purposes today.
